Return to the river
Remembering lost summer days
The signs of erosion
The places the old bank had caved

All alone I roamed this land
Walked the valley end to end
Knew every trail and path

I broke for the forest
Through branches and dense creeper vine
'Til I found my bearings
The rusted “No Trespassing” sign

Trace the scar as evidence
The time I fell climbing the fence

Slow walk in the meadow

Retracing the overgrown path

I found my way at last

Back then this was freedom
But now memories crowd in too close
Unsure of this feeling
Afraid of what I need the most
