What would it take you to smile?
When you were younger you dreamt all the while
about all that you are now

But it's still not enough
and it won't pick you up when you're down

What would it take to let go?
Into my arms they're ready to hold
you through the night,
to make you feel right when you're wrong

And time carries us on.
Like a train in the night,
headed for the light we call home

What would it take you to see?
All that's around you is yours to set free,
with your brush and your pen,
see through till the end, and belong

But the harness is strong,
and it binds you to all that hold on.

What would it take you to breathe?
Love is a blessing if you could only see,
that to need is okay, to want for a happy grave

like a bull to a fight,
