Die Kölner Band Schmitz & Niebuhr hat ein wahnwitziges Progrock-Doppel-Konzeptalbum mit dem Titel “Porz 1975” aufgenommen. Porz? Heute größter Stadtbezirk der Millionenstadt Köln, bis 1975 eigenständige Stadt, in der die MusikerInnen aufwuchsen und teils wieder leben. Dogma: Nur Instrumente - elektronisch, elektrisch und akustisch - die 1975 bereits existierten, wurden eingesetzt. Ein Stück für jeden der 16 damaligen Porzer Stadtteile … OK, mit Intro und Outro (featuring Spielmannszug!) sind es 18. Deshalb benötigte man eine Doppel-LP und die wunderbare C-90 Musikkassette. Gitarrensoli sind erlaubt, allerdings ohne … Sie wissen schon.

PORZ 1975 ist ein akustisches Roadmovie durch die 70er Jahre. Ein Jahrzehnt geprägt von Ideenreichtum, kompositorischem Wagemut und dem Vertrauen, dass Hörerinnen und Hörer sich Zeit für Musik nehmen. Ebenso skizziert das Konzeptalbum die Traumata der kommunalen Gebietsreform - die damit einhergehenden Verwerfungen und Wendungen werden auf musikalischer Ebene gespiegelt, das 16-seitige Booklet gewährt hierzu einen Einblick. Das Doppelalbum - voll mit Referenzen an den Art Pop und Progressive Rock - funktioniert aber auch allein. Ausufernde Improvisationen sind hier eher spärlich gesät, die Songs sind geistreich durchkomponiert und -arrangiert.

Die erste Single des Doppelalbums, das auf Vinyl, Musikkassette sowie digital erscheint, heißt Wahnheide - so wie der Stadtteil Köln-Porz-Wahnheide oder das Naherholungsgebiet Wahner Heide. Schmitz & Niebuhr haben die Eindrücke der damaligen Stadt sowie der Menschen, die dort leben und lebten, in einem skurrilen Musikvideo im Stil der 70er Jahre eingefangen. Ein Mini-Opus, das die Bandbreite des Albums widerspiegelt.

Cologne band Schmitz & Niebuhr have recorded an insane prog-rock double concept album, entitled “Porz 1975”. Porz? Today the largest district of the city of millions Cologne, Porz was an independent town until 1975. It's here where the musicians grew up and where some of them live again. Dogma: Only instruments - electronic, electric and acoustic - that already existed in 1975 were used. One track for each of the 16 districts of Porz at the time ... OK, with intro and outro (the latter featuring a marching band!) there are 18, so a double LP was needed and the lovely C-90 music cassette. Guitar solos are allowed, but without ... you know what.

PORZ 1975 is an acoustic road movie through the 70s. A decade characterised by a wealth of ideas, compositional daring and the trust that listeners take their time for music. The concept album also outlines the traumas of the municipal territorial reform - the accompanying upheavals and twists are reflected on a musical level, and the 16-page booklet provides an insight into this. The double album - full of references to art pop and progressive rock - also works on its own. Excessive improvisations are few and far between here, the songs are wittily composed and arranged.

Fun Fact: The album will be released on our good old friend Claus's Punkrock label Trillerfisch Records. Hm ... back then, wasn't Punk invented to smash the decadent prog rock hegemony of the 70s? That's why we asked Claus, CEO of Trillerfisch and founder of the legendary groupChefdenker, to produce and release our album. Not the ordinary prog experience, you may think, and you may be right.

Wahnheide (1st single)

The first single of the double album, available on vinyl, music cassette and digitally, is called Wahnheide - just like the Cologne-Porz-Wahnheide district or the Wahner Heide recreational area. Schmitz & Niebuhr have captured the impressions of the town at the time and the people who lived there in a quirky music video in the style of the 1970s. A mini-opus that reflects the breadth of the album.
