I originally started the two tracks on the EP shortly after releasing Anomaly around September 2020 but stopped being "creative" shortly after that.
That creative downtime lasted longer than I had intended and my next album, DRONE, was released a whole eleven months later.
After the release of DRONE I decided to go back over all of my unfinished projects and the two I am releasing here stood out, to me, as being worthy of taking to completion.
Why Two Cities?
I realised after a time that I was not going to make anything else that fit together on this release and so set my stall out to make this an EP rather than an album. Two pieces now needed a name.
I did my usual, consulting the interwebs for ideas, but nothing struck me as suitable.
Both pieces are made using LABS by Spitfire Audio. And the first piece uses a particular instrument called London Atmos which features a selection of field recordings taken around the streets of London.
So, that was easy, London became the name for the first piece.
Second piece, not so easy but I eventually settled on Edinburgh, for a couple of reasons.
My wife and I had recently visited the city and I felt that was important. It also meant that I had some photographs that I could use for the cover art, along side photographs that I took in London.
One of the co-founders of Spitfire Audio recently relocated to Edinburgh, so I thought this was a sort of nod to that fact. LABS, and other Spitfire Audio have brought much fun to my creative process over the last couple of years and added a different direction for me to follow every now and then.
I hope you enjoy and, please, feel free to fall asleep half way through... I do :-)
