Live & Rare by Taste Of Shotgun

It was a smoky night in The Charter Arms of Rotherham that I first had a taste.
My band had finished a set and Dave Woodcock, fuzzy beard and Jack Daniels in hand, told me he enjoyed it and asked for details. And that was when I knew that this stranger would become a good friend of mine. Because he had the right attitude and outlook to things. No band rivalries, just enjoy yourself and music. Curiously, whilst I went to jam nights and gigs with Dave, I never saw Taste of Shotgun do their thing for a long time. I had heard demos and hearing "Bring Out Your Dead" really wet my appetite. It was raw and cool. It was a band playing music for a reason, not just for the sake of it.
Time went on and I was honoured when I had the opportunity to get Taste of Shotgun their first Sheffield gig supporting us on Bonfire night of 2004. It was a chance to share with people a band who understand what it means to be on a stage and to write a song.
A band is only as big as their frontman but only as good as the collective sum of the band. And it must be remembered that alongside Dave are three very capable musicians who help to flesh out the songs - Iain Bushby (drums), Chris Allen (bass) and Tom Bailey (guitar).
It's a testament I feel to the band that people such as myself and Tommy Binks have either covered or written a song about this band.
In a time when image and style rule what's cool, when bands feud with one another because they don't like it when someone succeeds, Taste of Shotgun stand head and shoulders above any band - they just wanna play. Two albums already in their short life-span, this is a bootleg album to bridge the gap to their third.
Whilst people believe that I'm an arrogant sod, what they fail to realise is I give respect where it's due. And Taste of Shotgun join the list of bands that, for me personally on a local scale, have touched my life, from The Motherfuckers to The Long Blondes to Tommy Binks and The Alcoholics... Taste of Shotgun have taught me a lot about dignity and sticking to your convictions.

For all those people that say to me "I like your albums but you're much better live" - this is the Taste of Shotgun album for you - rough, raw and rowdy (God, don't you love alliteration?).
Here are my favourite live tracks from 2004 compiled onto one CD for your listening pleasure. Big thanks to Joe Binks, without whose Shotgun bootleg archive this collection wouldn't have been possible and to everyone who came to see us and continue to do so - you make the best sounds on this record.
