I D E N T I T Y
It seems to me that identity may just be the most complicated of concepts that can be captured in one clear and simple word. It encompasses the definition of who you are, where you are and what brought you here. You are defined by your DNA, the family that raised you, the culture you grew up in, your education, your work and the collective memory: both literal recollections and all of life's subconscious lessons. All of these combined form the basis for one unique "self", just like they do for the other 7.7 billion individuals inhabiting this lively planet.
Yet, this foundation is only the beginning, the starting point from where you make your choices: in how you present yourself, how you dress, behave, speak. Who you spend your precious time with and what you spend it on. What you read, speak, dream... The music you listen to, the joy and hardships you share and the ambitions you pursue.
Somehow, all those pasts, presents and futures are combined into one word that says it all: Identity. Is there any concept more appealing for which to write music? What an inspiring world to explore...
