Northern Hills 4:53

As I was walking the northern hills
Still wet with dew
I chanced upon a small flock of sheep
No shepherd in view

Oh where are you going little sheep so white
And where do you sleep on the cold spring night
And why do you roam?

We wandered too far from our shepherd so kind
Now we can't go home

And where have you wandered my dear little lambs
Oh where have you been?
And what brings you here to the hills of the north
With the air so thin?

We went to the sea but the sea was too wide
And no one there to take us to the other side
So we came up to roam

Because we couldn't stay there and we couldn't go back
And we can't go home

And what will you do in the heat of the summer
Little lambs so lost?
And where will you go when the winter wind whips through
The rain and frost

The wind it may blow and the sun it may burn
But we'll stay and we'll pray till our shepherd returns
And continue to roam

Because we can't stay here and we can't go back
And we can't go home
