Sibir is an ambient music exploration of five of the wild landscapes (and seascapes) of Siberia, from the southern hills of Buryatia to the high Arctic and under the waters of the icy sea. It is the seventh Gateless Gate recording.

‘Sibir’ is big to say the least. Epic, at times almost funereal in the elongated longing and patience that go with isolation, ‘Sibir’ feels like (as it should) it’s been standing watch for aeons. Befitting the mystery of Siberia, it’s beguiling that ‘Sibir’ feels both icy and glacial yet lush and verdant. Like its namesake, the album can’t escape from being tectonic in nature; the smallest shifts yield massive changes over time and attention. Far from being unnoticeable, these alterations and movements are best felt by the patient, viewed and experienced with limited blinking. The Gateless Gate document the landscape, and culture, seemingly by a force of will that is both disciplined and at times eerie.

This is the home of the psychedelic, progressive, ambient, and folk/rock music of Allister Thompson released under his own name and as The Gateless Gate, Sons of Birches, Twilight Fields, and Khan Tengri.
