Sports! by The Medium
Sports! is a short musical exploration of our American boyhood. It navigates our pasts with mixed emotions, ranging from pure nostalgia and enthusiasm, to superfluous machismo headbanging. This project began back in 2020 whilst in lockdown. We began performing a power chord guitar anthem entitled, "Sports!". It's finally here, retitled "Feel The Dream", newly arranged and available to be heard with three other fresh songs to accompany its arrival. Playing team sports was a significant part of our youths. We did our best to have fun collaborating in an attempt to bring new material to such a massive and universal subject known as sports!
On the surface the lyrics are all fun and games (and steroids, e.g. Gimme Some Gas) but a closer listen shows more than meets the eye. For what really is a sport? A fun way to exercise and play together? A rite of passage? A team-building activity? A series of territorial defensive rituals bordering on combat, so deeply ingrained in our ancestral monkey DNA that people will defend their hometeam as fervently as they would their own country?? Who's to say.
