I was driving through the Otways just trying to kill some time,
And in the seat right next to me was a very dear friend of mine.
Day and night we rolled along only stopping to get some sleep,
Searching for a good time with no particular place to be.
We left our homes, we left our friends, said bye to our families.
Said we'd see 'em again but not sure when, and we took off into the trees.
With money tight we'd sometimes fight, though we knew it wasn't smart.
Down at times on our hands and knees just praying for the car to start.
Point your boots towards the setting sun,
let the light shine on your face.
Let the eastern winds begin to push you the right way.
On the road we passed a man who looked down on his luck.
His clothes were wet, his eyes were sad, we could see that he was stuck.
No room to spare, we drove on by but I hope he found some friends.
I still think of him from time to time, but mostly when it rains.
Point your boots towards the setting sun,
let the light shine on your face.
Let the eastern winds begin to push you the right way.
Point your boots towards the setting sun,
let the light shine on your face.
Let the eastern winds begin to push you the right way.
