Polymorphic by Scholars of the Peak

The first long play Scholars of the Peak release is a step forward from the initial Peak EP. Whilst it captures some local legends and icons of the Peak District along with general sightings & happenings it also slots in some more personal tones and experiences.

There's 13 tracks to roll through and as the title of the album suggests there's more than one vibe at play here. A mix of instruments, styles and feeling descends on the Scholars of the Peak.

The Downfall, an impressive waterfall on the edge of Kinder Scout on the River kinder. During high winds the water blows back on itself creating a steam cloud that can be seen from miles around.

Betty Coke's gentle ghost haunts Melbourne Hall, Derbyshire. She has been seen by visitors working on a hanging tapestry. She began this in her lifetime but left it unfinished at her death. Now her ghost returns, needle in hand to continue the sewing.

The Magpie Mine, in 1947 a group of speleologists were exploring the mine in the Peak District. A member of the team spotted a man with a candle walking along a tunnel. The party followed the figure but the tunnel came to an end and the figure disappeared. On the same expedition a photograph was taken of a group member standing on a raft on a flooded part of the mine,. When the photo was developed a second figure could be seen standing on the surface of the water which was 8ft deep. The rich vein is said to lie 100ft below the water but if you wish to search, you have to brave not only the depths of the water but also the old man of Magpie Mine!
