Running through the trees
Pursued by demons of my own design
The way was black
The snares reached out their slender hands

Hurled into hell
The thing behind me compels me deeper still
Thorns tear my side
A trail of blood to feed the forest floor

Shamblehouse decrepit looms
Husk of a man, peers out with one eye
Bile rising, beckoning groping
Into the pit, come rot with me

Hand on my back
His hovel’s stench defiles my senses
The corners laugh
With bone and hair of struggling prey

Inside he grins
Opens a page in a filthy black book
Points frantically
Mouths a word tongueless, toothless
