I Do by Tim Lyre
On September 20th, Lagos based firebrand Tim Lyre releases his stunning new single ‘I Do’.
Produced by London based Nigerian beatmaker KC Freeley, ‘I Do’ sees Tim continue his forays within afrobeats territory. Deep, melancholic and reflective, Tim questions himself and his adoring partner whether they’re in it through thick and thin, in sentimental and hopeful spirit. The simple, classy drum pattern and nostalgic pads are intensely emotional, complimented by soaring asian strings and tastefully placed logdrums.
Commenting on the record, Tim says “This record asks the question all of us think at times - will you stick with your person through thick and thin? Obviously when life’s good and things are up, the answer’s easy, but will you last the tough times? The beat’s by KC Freeley, we’ve done a lot of work together in the past year and we’ve got some crazy records together on the way.”
‘I Do’ sees Tim continuing his finest run of form this year, following two quickfire collabs ‘All Night’ featuring Nigerian alté pioneer, BOJ, and ‘Instantly’ featuring rising star Kold AF, plus features with Show Dem Camp & The Cavemen (‘Buga’) and AYLØ (‘Bang!’).
This year Tim’s been reaching new heights, racking up 4 million streams on the two new singles. ‘All Night’ in particular charted in over 70 countries on Apple Music who made it their Track of the Week in Africa, hitting #1 on iTunes Portugal, as well as high positioning in Nigeria, US and UK charts.
On Spotify, it entered Local Pulse charts in London, New York, Los Angeles and Toronto. It also hit #1 on the Kenyan airplay charts, with support coming in from BBC 1Xtra with a Worldwide Premiere on DJ Edu’s show and Hotshot of the Week on the Official Afrobeats Chart Show w/ Eddie Kadi, plus heavy airplay on Beat FM, Soundcity FM, Kiss FM, TRACE Radio.
Tim Lyre’s acclaimed EP MASTA was heralded as one of the standout Afro-fusion projects in 2023, garnered widespread acclaim from BBC 1Xtra, Notion, Complex UK, Wonderland, GRM Daily, Mixtape Madness and Wetalksound.
A string of singles from Tim are rumoured to be in the pipeline, as anticipation for his new album “SPIRAL” builds, via London and Johannesburg based record label, Outer South.
