Gemini Retrograde by Kevin J. O'Conner
ABOUT THE TITLE
Mercury retrograde refers to the period (about three weeks roughly every three months) during which Mercury appears to move backwards in its orbit (it doesn't really). Retrograde is often associated with disruptions and communications gone awry. For this latest round (ended June 3rd), Mercury travelled back along its recent path through Taurus and Gemini.
Of course, that has nothing to do with this collection, except that most of the pieces were recorded or completed during Mercury retrograde.
ABOUT THE ALBUM
There is a tension between contemplative and noisy at work here, as the instruments I've been using lend themselves to unpredictability—they're capable of producing quiet, sometimes soothing sounds one moment and bursts of screeching, grit, and distortion the next.
