Kuturo Mpodr by Kevin J. O'Conner

Kuturo Mpodr is a semi-spontaneous collection of old and new pieces assembled from both musical and non-musical sources.

The opening and closing pieces date from mid-2002. I opened non-music files in Sound Forge (those were the days!), and then manipulated them to create a variety of pieces—some ambient(ish), some noisy, and some just regular ol' weird.

"Surface tension" was recorded in March 1998, when I still had all my gear—which included a Korg 01/W synthesizer, an inexpensive Audio-Technica microphone, a dbx 1066 compressor, and a turntable I rescued from my apartment building's dumpster in 1996.

The new piece, "The build-up always ends in disappointment", began as music created using Propellerhead Figure; after some processing, layering, inserts, and other edits, it morphed into a noise piece.

"The masked face of Yoko Ono"—which has absolutely nothing to do with Yoko Ono—was a 1999 experiment with brickwalled noise, most likely originating as another non-music file opened in Sound Forge (whatever the source material, it was original). For this release, I have tamed the clipping, but it should still be plenty loud.

The name for this collection comes from one of the song titles generated by Figure (Kuturo) combined with a mistyped fragment of a word while my fingers were slightly out of position on the keyboard. Other than that, it has no significance; any resemblance to the name of anyone (living or dead) is entirely coincidental and unintentional.
