Serenades by Tomas Mutina

An album of modular meditations and temporal snapshots.

Over the course of a year, I let my modular synthesizer guide me—sometimes gently, sometimes wildly—through a landscape of shifting moods and rhythmic fragments. Serenades is not just an album; it's a sonic journal. Each track represents a moment captured in sound, a conversation between intuition and machine.

The beauty of working with modular synths lies in their unpredictability. I didn’t compose in the traditional sense—rather, I interacted. I shaped voltages, sculpted textures, and allowed the system’s complexity to breathe life into each piece. The rhythms often emerged in odd signatures, woven together with evolving timbres and tonal colors.

At one point in the album, you’ll hear my voice reading a passage from one of my favorite books. That excerpt, chosen in a quiet, reflective moment, echoes the emotional core of the entire project. It helped anchor my thoughts during the creative process—reminding me why I was making this music in the first place.

This album is personal, and unfiltered. Everything you hear was born in real time, tracked in takes or minimal edits. No second-guessing—just flow.
