After 2019's ferocious 'Deviant', Defacement are now back with their second, self-titled full length offering. And the expectation that comes along with that choice of title is one that the band is more than capable of crushing.
After an intro that evokes images of a bleak, yet beautiful desert landscape, Defacement unleash an absolute whirlwind of atmospheric Death Metal.
While they're honing into the strengths of their debut, 'Shatter' showcases that the trio has expanded their sound with a more emotive and monumental vibe. It adds a depth to 'Defacement' in which you're certain to get lost.
The series of intermezzos entitled 'Limbo I' - 'Limbo IV' provide room to breathe before the next sand storm of a song sweeps over you, but the band interweaves some of the elements found in these instrumental pieces into the main songs at times.
If you thought 'Deviant' was impressive, wait until you hear this new album. Defacement have outdone themselves and crafted one of the most profound Extreme Metal releases of the year.
