Forgotten Turns by Twin Court

I hope one day I can see beyond. That single thought has consumed my life; that single thought has brought Twin Court into its flickering, inexplicable existence. We’re just children of rock music who happened to get lost in the beautiful, flowing river of Javanese gamelan. After practicing the traditional form for years, we found each other and an odd but natural sound came pouring out of us. It is a sound of tensions, where the simplicity and predefined structures of rock music fight for their life as gamelan rhythms and repetitions flood in, threatening to swallow songs whole. It is the sound of our worldviews themselves melting into something new.

Gamelan morphed us just like it morphed our music. We went from one singer to many. Our writing style became more and more collaborative, until finally we just wrote in large group sessions. The personality-centric nature of rock music learned to coexist with the polyphonic heart of gamelan. I hope that when you listen to Forgotten Turns you hear our baby steps into a new worldview. I hope you feel assured that you can think differently, you can live differently, if you want to. I hope you can truly hear the voices of the many all around you. The crickets buzzing outside your window, the relaxed friends talking on the street, the painful voice inside of you that you try so hard to ignore. I hope one day we can see beyond. The world will be better for it.
