Avarice by Tycho Brahe
This 2002 release was initially limited to a run of 50 professionally manufactured CD-R's, which sold out long ago. A remaster of the Special K Stompy Club Mix would later appear as a bonus track on the Atlantic album...
Following the release of the albums Cassiopeia and Tasty on CD in 2000 and 2001, Tycho Brahe continued to write new material for the next album. The new song Avarice became a popular part of the live set; it was one of those songs that appeared fully formed, the music and lyrics written by Ken in a stream of consciousness, start to finish, in only a few minutes while Georgina was using the studio computer to write and send an email. The version that was being played live was similar to the demo version (track 4 of this release), with this arrangement of the song eventually being properly recorded and released on the 2006 album Atlantic.
The "Special K Stompy" remixes were an experiment on Ken's part to take the song into club territory, recorded direct to 2 track digital in the studio, with vocals dubbed on later, and then edited into the two different length versions. These mixes brought the use of Tycho's TB-303 Devil Fish right up front in the mix, slammed through a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal into an Alesis Quadraverb multi-effects unit.
The version of Delos on this release was a re-edit incorporating some alternate parts of the song from the Tasty sessions, with "XX50" being a nod to the hidden track (originally included on this release) which can now be heard on the Bandcamp-only Special Edition of Tasty. The names Delos and XX50 are both references to the 1973 film Westworld.
