Homers by R. Stevie Moore

AMG REVIEW: A good decade before R. Stevie Moore's hero Frank Zappa initiated the Shut Up 'n' Play Yer Guitar series of patchwork live instrumental recordings, Moore had done the same thing with the hour-long collage Homers. Not a collection of individual pieces like the later keyboard-based albums Monotheism and Iconoclasm, Homers is simply a tapestry of electric guitar solos pulled out of the context of their songs and stitched together. (Imagine Neil Young's Weld without all the feedback and you'll get the general idea.) Fun for complete R. Stevie Moore obsessives and serious guitar nerds, as well as historians of that characteristic trebly but clean early '70s guitar sound, but really tiring for anyone else.
