Refrain by Veii
Six interlocking pieces. The main themes of this album are repetition as a form of change (inspired by the work of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze) and destruction juxtaposed with preservation. The compositions include complex harmony and structures, and the performances introduce factors of indeterminacy through hybrid text-and-manuscript scores open to performer interpretation and improvisation. Three of the pieces are for 48 voices, and the other three for solo classical guitar with recordings, solo piano, and piano with violin.
