Echology is a sound cycle that combines elements of ambient music and sound art. Each of the four phases is inspired by a material substance: water, wood, air, and glass. The work incorporates nature recordings, sampled sounds (such as wine glasses and mixing bowls), and synthesized audio elements, which are combined into soundscapes that are at times more musical or more atmospheric. These soundscapes were originally composed for a surround-sound installation in an art gallery, but have been mixed for stereo listening.
