Lyrics

My first cousin
Jeremiah,
he went down to North Korea,
came back in '54
to no applause.

He looked just the same-
his brain got rearranged,
he believed he was
the only son of God.

Under robes and holy garb,
lies the spirit and the mark
of a quiet man.

He once told me
life is fleeting,
keeping secrets makes you weary,
there are better things to do
than hate a man.

He lays down near hills and rivers
holds his hands
to stop the shivering,
tells his friends he's living
off the land.

Sometimes he hides
under the covers
singing
'We are all each other's
one and only.'

Jeremiah
and his magpie Magdalene,
he sighs-
he's living in his car,
and will be for a while.

He'll take his story on the road
with his woman and the clothes
he made from old fatigues,
as is the style.

He puts the car in park,
Him: 'do you trust me?'
Her: 'Are we really gonna live forever'

'with a half gallon tank of gas,
an old road map,
and a stick
to check the weather?'

Hey Jeremiah,
keep your rosary on tight,
when you're driving
all night. (x2)
(x4)
