Making this track offered the opposite experience to my previous release, “Ode to Winter”. As mentioned in that track’s blog post, its creation had a natural flow and was completed reasonably quickly. “Mudita” took me quite a while to whip into shape.
It’s the kind of track that I might have bailed on earlier in my career, but I felt that there was something there, I just needed to keep chipping away at it. Experience taught me that sometimes you should jump ship before wasting valuable time and return later (or not at all). But, every now and again it is worth staying on board and giving the music the time it needs to find its way…
Tracks like these can be frustrating to make because you get bogged down with minor details that feel never-ending and very frustrating. But it’s always satisfying eventually when you listen back and feel that you have found what you were looking for and that those frustrations and extra time spent was worth it…
