will sōderberg...

in august 2o19, i set up a residency at the fledge (https://thefledge.com/) in lansing michigan... this 'radically inclusive' community space is home to many amazing initiatives, including urban farming, youth programs, events, crafts, gamer spaces, space for artists to work... and a recording studio... i met new friends there, and was able to gather some old friends, including one session on a friday evening with james and wolf... we set up and played... with all of the fledge environment flowing over, under and around us... that day i also met edward smith, he was working on his painting 'battle of the gods and giants,' depicting a greek gigantomachia frieze that had been severely damaged... restoring it in his vision, repairing the ravages it had suffered since antiquity...the idea of a battle of the gods and giants, one generation of usurpers attempting to overthrow another, chaos rebelling against order, connected to the music we made... not sure which side we would be on... the sounds of layers of ruins, neglect and fragmentation, artifacts extracted by colonial powers for display... here transmuted thru flesh, wood, metal, strings and electronics....
