i peel my orange with a paring knife
felt it slip and now i have a slice
through the left side of my left hand
drink my coffee in the afternoon
had 4 cups it's gonna hit me soon
keeps me up into the night

and when i close my eyes i see
someone is staring back at me
someone i haven't seen in weeks
sometimes it makes it hard to breathe

smoke a cigarette at midnight
think of mom and how she just might
wonder what i do sometimes
called her up and asked her how she is
hear her take a breath before she says
"think i'm changing all the time
